Colour mixes

After doing a bit of computer analysis I found that the skin tones were very low saturation. That is, he used a lot of black or rather grey. The shadows tend to be yellowish (or rather brown) and the highlights pink. Inbetween there are purples (chest) and greens (under left breast). So I tried mixing the purples and greens using crimson, cadmium red, yellow ochre and cadminum yellow with varying mixtures of reducing amounts of black versus increasing amounts of white. Although crimson and cad. yellow provided the clearest purple and green, all the colours mixed with the largest amount of white seems to be useful.

Seignac - Figure sketch

Sketched out the figure before painting. Originally I was just looking to use line but ended up adding the tonal values.

Guillaume Seignac - Part 2

Update to yesterday's. Moved the mouth and the squashed left eye. The nose is too long but apart from that it looks OK.

Guillaume Seignac

Couple of drawings from Guillaume Seignac. The first one does look like the painting though it took 90 minutes to get looking like this. The second one isn't anything like the painting.

William Merritt Chase

These were from the last two weeks. I didn't get around to a painting, partially because I don't like his colour choices (seem too cold) and the way he paints hands.

Introduction

The idea behind this blog is to store some my sketches which aren't finished works. The idea being that I can mark progress and so whether I'm getting better. Currently I have wetcanvas and deviantart accounts for more finished works. This is only going to work if I post the bad with the good.
